Research and Creative Works Conference in Rexburg

Today Adam presented his paper “Addressing the Problem of Self-Centeredness in Marriage” that he has been working on with a BYU-Idaho professor and a Marriage and Family Therapy Researcher. BYU-Idaho campus held its first Research and Creative Works Conference, which allowed Adam to present his paper to his fellow psych peers before presenting at the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association in Denver, Colorado next week.
Adam has been researching and working hard in this directed topic for quite some time, so he is excited and ready to present it further to the public.
I couldn’t be more proud. πŸ™‚

iJump Birthday Celebration!

So iJump had it’s one year birthday on Monday! There was free jumping, prizes, discounts on packages and apparel, and tons of fun! I love being a part of something fun and awesome. I have my own iJump family πŸ™‚ There was a photographer taking pictures, and once we have access to those I will post them, but in the meantime, here are some pics that I took πŸ™‚ On the picture below with the four of us, BreAnn commented that me and her on the left look like sisters, and that Kate and Shae on the right look like sisters. Haha awesome right? We ended up having over 1,200 people come and jump and celebrate our one year anniversary with us πŸ™‚

Keeping Busy!

So this year has already been a busy one! Between me getting more hours at work (which I am def thankful for) and Adam doing his internship/research proposal/ and a full load of classes…I am just happy that we get to go to bed together every night haha. Adam did spend a few days in Texas before school started, so that was good for him to spend some time with the fam πŸ™‚ This semester he def has his nose to the grindstone, and I am proud of him for it. He works hard πŸ™‚ Plus with my work schedule, he doesnt have to feel bad for spending so much time on his hw and other projects.

I have been loving work more and more, which is a super cool feeling, because I have never had a job I was excited to go to before haha. I am pretty pro status as a party planner, not gunna lie πŸ˜‰ And the iFitness class I help teach still kicks my booty haha. I am not super happy about the tax increases this year from my paycheck…but nothing I can do about it. Lame.

With my calling in church I have also been involved in planning and advertising for our monthly relief society activities πŸ™‚ It is so weird to actually be a part of the meetings now, instead of hovering in the background while my mom is in the meetings haha.

Adam has also been loving his internship so far. He is already helping some of the boys in the juvenile correction facility and learning some great tips for what to do and what not to do in a group therapy session. He has been affirmed with his love for this avenue of a career, so he is def thankful for that confirmation. I know he will do great in this field. He can care and be professional at the same time…while I am just a blubbering mess even hearing examples about some of the boys’ lives. I think I will leave therapy to him πŸ˜‰

The weather is finally winter here with negative temperatures and icy roads. Our power even went out for a few hours one of the particularly colder days. Thankfully our KIA is a trooper on the ice and I am not as afraid to drive to work with it, which helps our gas for sure.

Overall, we are doing our best to stay warm and survive the craziness with our different schedules. Lucky for us, we make those moments and days we have time together worth it πŸ™‚ I still love our life πŸ™‚

P.S. Here are some random pics from the last couple weeks: Adam with his brothers and rifles in Texas, his DNA projects, a relief society coupon advertisement I made, and some other randoms πŸ™‚

iJump Christmas Party!

We had a work party last night after hours, it was so fun. We closed an hour early (10pm) and it was an optional all-nighter for the staff. Adam and I left around 12:30 or so, so that we could get some sleep before driving to Utah that morning. Adam came with me and he was amazing enough to be the photographer for the night on my camera πŸ™‚

It was a fun Christmas party; full of white elephant gifts, dodgeball tournaments, and crazy flips off the ceiling ledges. The people I work with and for are awesome.Β Great night πŸ˜‰

iJump Idaho Trampoline Park Staff!

So I have finally found a job! And it is the one I had wanted to begin with! iJump is a trampoline park in Idaho Falls that offers rooms full of trampolines, foam pits, dodgeball areas, and even rooms for birthday parties! They have even started offering an areobics class on the trampolines! It is an “air”obics class haha. It is on Thursday nights from 9-10.

I had applied for a job there around July, but they had already filled all the openings. However, last week they had one open up so they called me in, interviewed me, and I got the job! It is a part time position and they not only want me to help with the front desk and monitoring the trampoline area for safety, but they also want me to be a second instructor for the trampoline aerobics class! I am working with the lady who has all the routines for the class and I am going to be helping her out and splitting the class into two groups as needed. I am so excited! This is exactly the kind of job I wanted. Fun environment, good people, and a chance to use not only my minor with exercise sports science, but they also asked me to help with marketing…so I can use my communications degree as well! I am seriously so happy. Plus it is really not a bad commute, only maybe 25 minutes and it is right off the highway.

Adam is super supportive and happy for me for getting a job that I can do well in and that I actually enjoy. Plus this is a busy semester for him while he is applying to masters programs, so the hours of me being gone during nights and weekends are not as hard as they could be. I am just so grateful for this opportunity and I know the Lord is blessing me πŸ™‚

iJump Idaho is super fun! So come in and check it out πŸ™‚ Here is their website for info on pricing, hours, and an online waiver πŸ™‚

My Executive Decision

…with help from others.

This has been a very rough week for me. With my classes picking up and waking up early and doing all of my homework and such, the last thing I want to deal with is things going haywire at work. I have been trying my HARDEST to learn everything I can, and I realized that the person before me had this job 40 hours a week, 8 hours a day…and I was trying to do everything in 10 hours a week and 2 hours a day. I was drowning. I felt a bit misguided in what my work load was going to be. I had sooo many responsibilities and I was trying so hard to get everything right. My boss was probably the scariest boss I have ever had in my life…and I have had some interesting bosses. I came home from work almost in tears and emotional rattled everyday. I wouldnt want to do my hw! I am so close to graduation that I cant afford to let my grades suffer. I know Adam has been actively looking for a job, and I know he felt so bad for me coming home everyday miserable and emotional exhausted. I couldnt do it anymore…it wasnt worth it.

So I decided to quit.

I had such an ethical dilemma going on inside my head. I am not a quitter….not with things like work or school…(piano may have gone by the wayside…*cough*) but with this kind of thing, I NEVER give up. It was gut wrenching because I just felt like I was drowning and having anxiety every night about if I got everything done…at work! Not even at school! I was thinking more about work than anything else…and I knew if I stayed any longer, my grades would suffer. Credit load, this is probably going to be one of the toughest semesters because of all the upper classes I am taking.

I had a conversation with my dad and it helped me so much. He told me to prioritize the right things in my life and that quitting a losing team, is really winning. Adam was telling me too that he respects the people who know when it is better for them to walk away….

So I am now done with the Rexburg Standard Journal. I worked my last day today other than a day of training for whoever they decide to replace me with. It was so scary telling my boss. (Adam came with me so she wouldnt freak out…and believe it or not she was the nicest I have probably ever seen her been…haha…I saw this woman chew out a man who wanted to quit because his mom was possibly dying…yeah…needless to say I was a little bit clammy going into her office). But I did it!

Tonight I have had the most wonderful evening with my husband all cuddled up on the couch continuing our Harry Potter marathon. I even have all of my homework done. I am not looking back. I learned so many things already from this experience and what I should and shouldnt have to deal with.

And on the upside…it taught me to organize even more! I didnt know that was possible haha! Im expecting some high GPA numbers this semester πŸ™‚

Thank you to all those who supported me in this decision. I will sleep good tonight.

Bring it on!

So this semester has started with a bang! Between a full class load and working part time, you really learn how to manage your time! I have never been much of an expert on managing time, but I tell you what…I am now getting the hang of it! Secretly I like being busy….but dont tell Adam that…haha he sees me come home all tired and is sad for me…but I thrive on it lol. Adam has been applying to many jobs and a couple have been a maybe so we shall see! He is pretty excited. We still go to the gym together when I get home from work and that is so nice. I enjoy that time with him when we work out, it’s the similar feeling of being on a sports team and having such a good support system. πŸ™‚

He has also been the best husband ever by cleaning and cooking alot more while I am busy or come home super tired…I love him so much!

Well, so far we have survived week one without going crazy, and I even get 7 hours of sleep a night…who knew??? Haha I also just got my next birth control shot….this should be fun for the next week…haha.

Bring it on Winter 2012 semester. Bring. It. On.

Β my school schedule in case you were curious. Then I go to work for a couple hours, then we go to the gym together and then go home and I do my homework! Whew! If this isnt preparing me to be that awesome soccer mom I wanna be, I dont know what else is! haha.
